"Full of laughs but also extremely emotional, Gwen In Purgatory is the best play to hit a Sydney stage this year." The Daily Telegraph
Tommy Murphy is one of Australia's most formidable playwrights: canny, dangerous and very funny. His plays include Holding the Man, one of the great success stories of recent Australian theatre whiched opened in London's West End in May 2010.

"As deft and pungent a comedy as you are likely to see this year or any other" Sydney Morning Herald
"Tommy Murphy's new play is terrific - a funny and warm family comedy-drama full of recognition for anyone who has a multigeneration family." - The Australian
"A technical tour de force as well as a generous and humane piece of comic writing...We'll see Gwen again in years to come - it already feels like a classic - but you won't see it produced any better than this." Sydney Morning Herald
"Neil Armfield directs a terrific production with excellent performances from the fine cast" Sunday Telegraph
